About the Atiu Swiftlet

The Atiu swiftlet or Sawtell's Swiftlet (Aerodramus sawtelli) is a species of bird in the swift family, endemic to Atiu in the Cook Islands. This small, dark swift measures 10 cm (3.9 in) long. It is sooty-brown above, slightly lighter below. Its natural habitats are the island's fernlands and mixed horticultural areas over which it feeds, and in makatea limestone caves within which it nests. The species is known on Atiu as kopeka. Unlike all other swiftlets, it echolocates only through single clicks, rather than a mix of single- and double clicks. "Aerodramus sawtelli". Avibase. "Atiu swiftlet media". Internet Bird Collection. We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 5 recordings for this species: 5 CC BY-NC-SA. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
