Brown Teal (Anas chlorotis)

About the Brown Teal
The brown teal (Anas chlorotis; Māori: pāteke) is a species of dabbling duck of the genus Anas native to New Zealand. It was long considered conspecific with the flightless Auckland and Campbell teals as Anas aucklandica; the name "brown teal" has also been largely applied to that entire taxon. Common in the early years of European colonisation, the species was heavily harvested as a food source. Its numbers quickly fell, especially in the South Island, and in 1921 it became fully protected. Captive breeding and releasing into predator-controlled areas was successful in establishing localised re-introduced populations after 2003.

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 2 recordings for this species: 2 CC BY-NC-SA. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.
As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
