About the Northern Cassowary

The northern cassowary (Casuarius unappendiculatus), also known as the one-wattled cassowary, single-wattled cassowary, or golden-necked cassowary, is a large, stocky flightless bird of northern New Guinea. It is one of the three living species of cassowary, alongside the dwarf cassowary and the southern cassowary. It is a ratite, a polyphyletic group of flightless Paleognaths, which includes birds like the ostrich and emu.

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 6 recordings for this species: 4 CC BY-NC-ND. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.

Listed as recorded in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea in the xeno-canto catalogue.
