About the Cape Barren Goose

The Cape Barren goose (Cereopsis novaehollandiae), sometimes also known as the pig goose, is a species of goose endemic to southern Australia. It is a distinctive large, grey bird that is mostly terrestrial and is not closely related to other extant members of the subfamily Anserinae. The Indigenous Jardwadjali people of western Victoria refer to this species as toolka. The Noongar people of south-western Western Australia use the name bibib.

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 22 recordings for this species: 12 CC BY-NC-SA · 10 CC BY-NC-ND. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
