About the Sombre Hummingbird

The sombre hummingbird (Eupetomena cirrochloris) is a species of hummingbird in the "emeralds", tribe Trochilini of subfamily Trochilinae. It is endemic to Brazil. The sombre hummingbird was formerly placed in the genus Aphantochroa which was itself sometimes merged into Campylopterus. Based primarily on a molecular phylogenetic study published in 2014, Aphantochroa was merged by most taxonomic systems into Eupetomena. However, BirdLife International's Handbook of the Birds of the World retains it in Aphantochroa. The sombre hummingbird is monotypic.

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 59 recordings for this species: 51 CC BY-NC-SA · 8 CC BY-NC-ND. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
