About the Jabiru

The jabiru (or; Jabiru mycteria) is a large stork found in the Americas from Mexico to Argentina, except west of the Andes. The only member of the genus of the same name, it is most common in the Pantanal region of Brazil and the eastern Paraguayan Chaco. It sometimes wanders into the United States, usually in Texas, but also reportedly in Mississippi, Oklahoma and Louisiana. The name comes from the Tupi–Guaraní languages and means 'swollen neck'.

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 21 recordings for this species: 3 CC BY-NC-ND · 1 CC BY-NC-SA. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.

Listed as recorded in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay in the xeno-canto catalogue.
