About the Black-collared Bulbul

The black-collared bulbul (Neolestes torquatus), or black-collared greenbul, is a species of songbird in the bulbul family, Pycnonotidae. It is monotypic within the genus Neolestes. For many years, its genus was considered to belong to the bushshrike or shrike families due to morphological similarities until a review of molecular genetics in 1999 confirmed that it belongs to the family Pycnonotidae. The black-collared bulbul is found in equatorial Africa in its natural habitat of dry savanna and grassland. The black-collared bulbul was listed as Least Concern by a 2018 IUCN Red List assessment. We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 7 recordings for this species: 6 CC BY-NC-ND · 1 CC BY-NC-SA. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.

Listed as recorded in Zambia in the xeno-canto catalogue.
