About the Striped Sparrow

The striped sparrow (Oriturus superciliosus) is a species of bird in the family Passerellidae, the New World sparrows. It is endemic to Mexico. The striped sparrow was formally described in 1838 with the binomial Aimophila superciliosa. In 1850 Charles Lucien Bonaparte erected the genus Oriturus and in 1856 assigned Aimophila superciliosa to it. The striped sparrow is the only member of its genus. It has two subspecies, the nominate O. s. superciliosus (Swainson, 1838) and O. s. palliatus (Van Rossem, 1938).

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 59 recordings for this species: 45 CC BY-NC-SA · 14 CC BY-NC-ND. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
