About the Olive-green Tanager

The olive-green tanager (Orthogonys chloricterus) is a species of bird in the family Mitrospingidae. It is endemic to Brazil. The olive-green tanager and the three other species in family Mitrospingidae were previously placed in family Thraupidae, the "true" tanagers. A 2013 publication detailed how they did not belong there and proposed the new family for them. The North and South American Classification Committees of the American Ornithological Society accepted the new placement in July 2017 and March 2019, respectively. The International Ornithological Committee (IOC) followed suit in January 2018. The olive-green tanager is the only member of its genus and has no subspecies.

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 57 recordings for this species: 47 CC BY-NC-SA · 10 CC BY-NC-ND. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
