About the Fulmar Prion

The fulmar prion (Pachyptila crassirostris) is a species of seabird in the family Procellariidae, found in the southern oceans. Its common name "prion" (not to be confused with the misfolded proteins of the same name) means "saw", referring to the bill; "fulmar" means "foul-gull". The species was once assigned under the now-obsolete genus Fulmariprion (from "fulmar" and "prion"). The genus Pachyptila means "thick feathers". Its specific name crassirostris means "thick-beaked".

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 9 recordings for this species: 9 CC BY-NC-SA. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.

Listed as recorded in New Zealand in the xeno-canto catalogue.
