White-winged Robin (Peneothello sigillata)

About the White-winged Robin
The white-winged robin (Melanodryas sigillata) is a species of bird in the Australasian robin family Petroicidae. The specific epithet is from Latin meaning "adorned with little figures" from "sigilla" meaning "image", "little figure" or "mark". The white-winged robin was formerly placed in the genus Peneothello, but based on the results of a 2011 molecular genetic study of the Australasian robins by Les Christidis and coworkers, in 2025 the genus Peneothello was merged into a more broadly defined Melanodryas. Three subspecies are recognised:

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 22 recordings for this species: 4 CC BY-NC-ND · 2 CC BY-NC-SA. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.
As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
