About the Carunculated Caracara

The carunculated caracara (Daptrius carunculatus) is a species of bird of prey in the family Falconidae, the falcons and caracaras. It is found in Colombia and Ecuador. The carunculated caracara was formally described in 1853 as Phalcoboenus carunculatus by the French naturalist Marc Œillet des Murs based on a specimen collected in Colombia. A more detailed unpublished description by des Murs dating from 1845 was published in an article by Philip Sclater in 1861. The carunculated caracara is monotypic: no subspecies are recognised.

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 5 recordings for this species: 4 CC BY-NC-SA · 1 CC BY-NC-ND. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.

Listed as recorded in Ecuador in the xeno-canto catalogue.
