About the Peruvian Plantcutter

The Peruvian plantcutter (Phytotoma raimondii) is an Vulnerable species of bird in the family Cotingidae, the cotingas. It is endemic to Peru. For part of the twentieth century the genus Phytotoma was placed in its own family Phytotomidae but subsequent genetic testing proved that it belonged in its current Cotinga family. The Peruvian plantcutter shares genus Phytotoma with the white-tipped plantcutter (P. rutila) and rufous-tailed plantcutter (P. rara). It and the white-tipped are sister species. The Peruvian plantcutter is monotypic.

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 27 recordings for this species: 18 CC BY-NC-ND · 9 CC BY-NC-SA. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
