Magellanic Plover (Pluvianellus socialis)

About the Magellanic Plover
The Magellanic plover (Pluvianellus socialis) is a rare wader endemic to southernmost South America. It was long placed in with the other plovers in the family Charadriidae; however, behavioural evidence suggested they were distinct, and molecular studies confirmed this, suggesting that they are actually more closely related to the sheathbills, a uniquely Antarctic family. As such it is now placed in its own family, Pluvianellidae.

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 4 recordings for this species: 2 CC BY-NC-SA. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.
As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
