About the Steinbach's Canastero

Steinbach's canastero (Pseudasthenes steinbachi) or the chestnut canastero, is a species of bird in the Furnariinae subfamily of the ovenbird family Furnariidae. It is endemic to Argentina. Steinbach's canastero was originally described as Siptornis steinbachi and was later long placed in genus Asthenes. Beginning in 2010 it and three other members of Asthenes were moved to the newly coined genus Pseudasthenes. Steinbach's canastero is monotypic. (Subspecies neiffi of the short-billed canastero (Asthenes baeri) was originally described as a subspecies of Steinbach's canastero.).

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 12 recordings for this species: 11 CC BY-NC-SA · 1 CC BY-NC-ND. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
