Tumbes Swallow (Tachycineta stolzmanni)

About the Tumbes Swallow
The Tumbes swallow (Tachycineta stolzmanni) is a species of bird in the family Hirundinidae, the swallows and martins. It is found in Ecuador and Peru. The Tumbes swallow was first described as Hirundo leucopygia in 1880. However, that binomial already applied to a different species so in 1902, following the principle of priority, Philippi named it Hirundo Stolzmanni and is credited with its formal description. It later was moved to its present genus Tachycineta that had been erected in 1851. For much of the twentieth century it was treated as a subspecies of the mangrove swallow (Tachycineta albilinea) but by early in the twenty-first century it was widely accepted as a full species. The Tumbes swallow is monotypic.
