Dwarf Tinamou (Taoniscus nanus)

About the Dwarf Tinamou
The dwarf tinamou (Taoniscus nanus), also known as the least tinamou, is a small, superficially partridge-like bird with short tail and wings, found only in Brazil. This tinamou is the only member of the genus Taoniscus and it is considered an endangered species. All tinamou are from the family Tinamidae, and in the larger scheme are also ratites. Unlike other ratites, tinamous can fly, although in general, they are not strong fliers. All ratites evolved from prehistoric flying birds, and tinamous are the closest living relative of these birds. The dwarf tinamou is the only member of the genus Taoniscus and is a monotypic species. A phylogenetic study published in 2022 found that the dwarf tinamou was embedded within the genus Nothura.

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 46 recordings for this species: 3 CC BY-NC-SA. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.
As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
