About the Oriente Warbler

The Oriente warbler (Teretistris fornsi) is one of two species of bird in the Cuban warbler family Teretistridae. It is endemic to central and eastern Cuba. The Oriente warbler shares its family and genus with the yellow-headed warbler (T. fernandinae). They were originally placed in the New World warblers (Parulidae) but phylogenetic studies of nuclear and mitochondrial DNA led to reassessment of several genera and in 2017 the Cuban warblers were moved to their own family. Their closest relatives are the four members of family Spindalidae, the yellow-breasted chat (Icteria virens), and the New World blackbirds of family Icteridae. The Oriente warbler has two subspecies, the nominate T. f. fornsi and T. f. turquinensis.

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 14 recordings for this species: 10 CC BY-NC-SA · 4 CC BY-NC-ND. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
