About the Russet-mantled Softtail

The russet-mantled softtail (Cranioleuca berlepschi) is a Near Threatened species of bird in the Furnariinae subfamily of the ovenbird family Furnariidae. It is endemic to northern Peru. The russet-mantled softtail was originally described in genus Thripophaga. Based on a large molecular phylogenetic study of the suboscines published in 2020 it was moved by worldwide taxonomic systems to genus Cranioleuca. The South American Classification Committee of the American Ornithological Society retains the russet-mantled softtail in Thripophaga but is seeking a formal proposal to move it to Cranioleuca. The russet-mantled softtail is monotypic.

We only publish recordings we may use commercially, because this site is supported by ads. xeno-canto lists 21 recordings for this species: 14 CC BY-NC-SA · 7 CC BY-NC-ND. None of them permits commercial use, so there is no player here — the page is kept as a profile so the bird is not missing from the guide.

As soon as someone uploads a freely licensed recording, we mirror it and the player appears here.
